The Tractors

We debated long and hard over the appropriate tractor to use. It had to be vintage rather than modern, rugged and reliable yet stylish . We eventually settled on the  classic "Little Grey Fergi".

Designed by Harry Ferguson, the Ferguson TE20 was built for 10 years between 1946 and 1956. It became the must have tractor for farms not only in this country but throughout the world.

We have limited history for this tractor. She came  from South Wales, where she had spent some time on The Gower Peninsula. She was then acquired by a serial restorer of these tractors who was looking for his ninth project.  He kept her for a while before selling her to us so that he could restore another one. We call her Jenny.

Jenny is available for hire, separately from the tractor and trailer service, for static display around the venue and photographs.

She can also act as your "Welcome" sign under the oak tree in front of Milling Barn, while our other tractor is  pulling the trailer.
In addition Jenny is able to take over towing duties in the unlikely event that there is an issue with her younger sister.

The picture above was taken at the end of Milling Barn's car park. If you look over the bonnet you can see the route down to Blunts Wood, which is the area of trees at the end of the track.

This is a local tractor which was first registered in Luton, before spending time owned by a school in Letchworth. The tractor dates from the last year of production and is used by us for the lions share of the trailer pulling work.
Over the winter both tractors have had a full service ready for the new wedding season.
The Trailer

Our trailer is a bespoke build specifically for this service. A single door at the rear gives access to two rows of inward facing bench seats, giving a maximum capacity of 20 persons. The frames of the seats are made of steel, welded to the trailer.

The seats are foam padded in material giving the appearance of straw. The seat backs may look to be made of planks but are in fact also foam padded in a material which gives an appearance that broadly matches the tables at Milling Barn.

There is a clear plastic front windscreen, to give protection from the breeze as the trailer travels down the pathway at about 4 miles per hour, while the sides and rear windows are open.
